When to seek legal assistance
When to seek legal assistance
A lot of people suffer unnecessarily in a legal matter because they neglect to seek legal assistance or to consult with a lawyer. Not only do they suffer, but often times people lose a lot of money because they are taken advantage of by sharks who know how to manipulate a person who doesn’t have much knowledge of the law. Every person has human and legal rights, but it is your right to protect them. If you ever wondered when you should seek legal assistance, here is when:
- In the case of a divorce or marital separation where children or property are involved it is crucial to seek legal advice in the early stages ensuring that everyone’s rights are protected;
- Any person injured at work, in a car accident or when he or she was simply walking along the street should seek legal assistance immediately after the injury becomes evident, as prompt action is necessary for workers compensation and personal injury claims;
- It is important that you seek legal advice before signing a lease or contract as it will be too late afterwards; and
- If you have been charged with a criminal offence you should apply for legal aid or see a lawyer immediately. Unless a person has been released on bail or see the solicitor at court most don’t have any legal advice before they appear in court. The courts prefer a person to have legal representation (so that they have all the relevant material in front of them when they are deciding the case), and will usually adjourn the court to allow an unrepresented defendant to advise legal aid or a lawyer.
